Companion

Companion in lonely spaces
Comforter when I’m sad
Light in darkest places
Your love makes me glad

Forgiver of my sins
Power when I’m powerless
Ever present friend
Father to the fatherless

Rock on shaky ground
Savior in sinking sand
Your voice, the sweetest sound
Guiding me by my hand

Guidance down longest roads
Refresher of thirsty souls
Reaper of good seeds sowed
Omnipresent to console

The Uninvited

Private spaces assailed

Private places invaded

The Uninvited scars the soul

Confusion replaced innocence

Violation replaced trust

The Uninvited left by time

Finally gone

Replaced by healing

Replaced by health

Replaced by love

Awake

I am awake

A sleeper awakened

The silent, now speaking

Once mute, now singing

Awakened to dream

Allowed to speak

Afraid no more

Of what others think

Uncovered, unmuzzled, unbridled

I am alive

I am forgiven

I am awake

You Took Me There

Unknown at home, you took me there
To meet my Father, Savior. Friend and Lord
With a song of hope and sinner’s prayer
My young heart still yearned for more
Eternal life, hope, joy and peace
Unknown at home, such sweet release
Communion cups filled with red
Taught me of the blood You shed
Broken wafers passed around
Knowing new life within I’ve found
Thankful love for a Father’s care
Unknown at home, you took me there

The Walk

Blue lake frozen white
Green trees turned brown
Golden sun brings no warmth
To Gethsemani’s hill in winter
Brown fields of windswept grass
Birds sing in the morning air
Wind blowing on my skin
Reminds me of His presence
The Walk is part of the journey
A searching of the soul
Listening to His voice
Seeking His will above all
The quiet is my home
May my heart learn there to stay

Memorial

In memory of fallen warriors

Friends, fathers, mothers

Brothers, sisters, sons and daughters

Fallen all, lost to war

Others we’ve lost, missed just as much

Grateful memories, warm thoughts

Comforting words from those who care

Still missed, still loved, forever remembered

With gratefulness, love and warm memories

 Alone No More

I saw you alone

Afraid to speak

Head down

Hoping no one would see

You weren’t invisible

Not to me

I reached out my hand

You took a chance

And made a friend for life

Walk with Me

Walk with me past freshly plowed fields
Down dirt roads with covering trees
With colored leaves of fall
We’ll wander in God’s wilderness
Without direction, led by the whim of fate
Walk with me, with your hand in mine
Beauty arising around each corner
Beauty walking by my side
Satisfied with silence, listening to nature’s voice
Kissed by the morning breeze
Kissed by your tender lips
Walk with me through life together
Walk with me, with your hand in mine

Distant Dreams

Distant dreams die unfulfilled
Winged with wreckage of sorrow. Stilled
Left lying, longing for friends and youth
Wretched ruins wronged all hope and truth
Age attacks again and fear restrains
Heart hungering hope rewarding pain
Time’s torn talents burried deep
Songs still unsung left to sleep
Wasted winds weep of time lost
Sleep still shudders at the cost
Broken bridges burnt still stand
Discouragement’s door determined to slam
Shut shouts soldiered within my soul
Dreams die distantly, unkept, unwhole

Inspiration

Silence still holds my tongue. Writing:  A thing for those with words.
Thoughts are sleeping within my reach but fail to wake with the alarm
Actions take the place of words.  My hands move but the mouth will not.
No time to wait for inspiration.  It’s time to seek it in the world of work.

Rant

You rant, hoping I will cower
With the power of hate
You flare your nostrils, point and snarl
With words of pain and anger
Foul-mouthed obscenities fail
In pale comparison to my peace
Smiling, trying not to laugh
At your half-witted words
Cords of bondage have no power
Showering fear upon the weak
You freak when I balk
As I walk calmly through your storms
You live in a self-made hell
Drink from wells of peace and joy
Forgive yourself, let go of the past
Don’t wait to change
Your rage must die and kill no more
